Finding Balance: How I Manage Social Media Without Sacrificing My Studies

Being a media student, I understand the pressure to maintain a strong online presence. But let’s be honest, the constant chase for likes and the curated online world can easily become overwhelming.

Here’s how I found a sweet spot – a way to utilize social media without letting it become a study saboteur:

Setting Boundaries, Not Walls: I deleted social media apps from my phone. Out of sight, out of mind, right? Wrong. Instead, I have designated times on my computer for checking updates and interacting. This way, I avoid the mindless scrolling trap.

Curating for Creativity: I decluttered my social media feeds. Gone are the accounts that trigger FOMO or negativity. Now, my feed is filled with inspiring content, industry leaders, and tutorials that fuel my creative spark.

Quality Over Quantity: I post strategically, focusing on showcasing my work and connecting with my audience. It’s not about the number of posts, but the quality of the content I share.

The Power of “Do Not Disturb”: When deadlines loom, I utilize the “do not disturb” function on my devices. This helps me stay focused on tasks without the distraction of notifications.

Real Connections Over Reels: Social media can’t replace face-to-face interaction. I prioritize real-life meetings and discussions with peers and professors. Learning and inspiration come from diverse sources, not just online feeds.

Life Beyond the Like Button: My self-worth isn’t measured by likes and comments. I celebrate my achievements, big or small, both online and offline. Validation comes from within and through pursuing my passions.

By setting these boundaries and prioritizing my well-being, I’ve found a way to harness the power of social media without letting it become my academic downfall. Remember, it’s all about finding that balance – using social media as a tool, not a dictator of your success.
